About the Chartreuse Swizzle cocktail

The Chartreuse Swizzle is a modern tiki-style cocktail made with Green Chartreuse, pineapple juice, lime juice, and falernum. Using Chartreuse as the base spirit is a bold, unexpected choice: the drink is herbal, tropical, tart, and boozy, with pineapple and falernum pulling the alpine liqueur into island-drink territory.

San Francisco bartender Marcovaldo Dionysos created the Chartreuse Swizzle in 2003 for a Chartreuse cocktail competition, where it won first place. The drink exploded in popularity after it was added to the menu at celebrity chef Michael Mina’s Clock Bar in San Francisco.

Ingredients

1 1/2 ozGreen Chartreuse
1 ozPineapple juice
3/4 ozLime juice
1/2 ozFalernum liqueur

Instructions

  1. Build in a tall glass and add pebble ice.
  2. Swizzle or stir vigorously to chill and dilute, topping with more pebble ice as needed.
  3. Garnish with mint leaves and grated nutmeg.
