The Corpse Reviver No. 2 is a classic gin cocktail made with gin, triple sec, Lillet Blanc, lemon juice, and a small amount of absinthe. It is tart, crisp, lightly orange-forward, and balanced, with just enough absinthe to add a subtle herbal edge without taking over the drink.

Corpse Revivers were originally a family of cocktails meant as old-school hangover cures, but the Corpse Reviver No. 2 is the version that became the enduring classic. Popularized by Harry Craddock’s Savoy Cocktail Book, it is famous for both its lively citrus flavor and its memorable warning that too many in quick succession would undo the supposed revival.

Ingredients

1 ozGin
1 ozLillet blanc
1 ozTriple sec
1 dashAbsinthe
1 ozLemon juice

Instructions

  1. Chill a coupe glass.
  2. Add all ingredients to a shaker.
  3. Shake with ice until well chilled (about 10–15 seconds).
  4. Strain into the chilled coupe glass.
  5. Garnish with orange zest.
