White Lady

White Lady

About the White Lady cocktail

The White Lady is a classic gin sour made with gin, triple sec, and fresh lemon juice. It is crisp, bright, and silky, with gin botanicals up front, orange liqueur through the middle, and a clean sour lemon finish.

The modern version of the White Lady became famous through Harry Craddock’s 1930 Savoy Cocktail Book, though an earlier 1919 drink by Harry MacElhone used a completely different formula with brandy, crème de menthe, and triple sec. Many modern versions add egg white for a foamy texture, but early printed recipes did not include it. The cocktail also carries one of the great Savoy legends: Craddock supposedly buried a cocktail shaker containing White Lady ingredients inside the walls of the American Bar during renovations.
