About the Pimm's Cup cocktail
The Pimm’s Cup is a classic British summer drink made with Pimm’s No. 1, a gin-based liqueur flavored with fruit, herbs, and spices, then topped with lemon-lime soda or ginger ale. It is built in the glass and garnished with whatever fruit is on hand, making a light, refreshing fruit-cup cocktail.
James Pimm created Pimm’s No. 1 in the early to mid-1800s at his oyster bar, where he served spirit-based punches and cups. The bottled liqueur was designed to be mixed with lemon-lime soda and later ginger ale, turning a house punch into one of England’s most recognizable warm-weather drinks.
