Fernandito

About the Fernandito cocktail

The Fernandito is a simple but iconic highball made with Fernet and Coca-Cola. It is sweet, bitter, fizzy, and intensely herbal, with cola up front and a minty, medicinal Fernet backbone underneath. For Fernet fans, it is bracing and refreshing; for newcomers, it can be one of the friendliest ways to try the famously intense Italian amaro.

Although Fernet comes from Italy, the Fernandito is deeply associated with Argentina, where Fernet became wildly popular after arriving with European immigrants in the late 19th century. Traditionally, Fernet was often mixed with soda water or coffee, but sometime in the 1980s Coca-Cola became the mixer of choice, creating the Fernandito and turning it into one of Argentina’s most beloved drinks.
