Tequila Sunrise

About the Tequila Sunrise cocktail

The Tequila Sunrise is a classic tequila cocktail made with tequila, orange juice, and grenadine. It is sweet, citrusy, refreshing, and instantly recognizable thanks to the red-to-orange gradient created when the grenadine sinks through the orange juice, giving the drink its sunrise effect.

The modern Tequila Sunrise was created in the early 1970s at the Trident restaurant in Sausalito, California, and became famous after the Rolling Stones started ordering it during their 1972 American tour. With juicy orange, a candy-like grenadine finish, and just enough tequila bite, it remains one of the most approachable and visually iconic tequila cocktails.
