About the Sea Breeze cocktail
The Sea Breeze is a refreshing vodka cocktail made with cranberry juice and grapefruit juice. It is tart, crisp, fruity, and easy-drinking, with cranberry bringing bright red berry flavor and grapefruit adding a slightly bitter citrus edge that keeps the drink from becoming too sweet.
The cocktail is closely tied to Ocean Spray’s promotion of cranberry juice as a cocktail mixer beginning in the 1930s, although early Sea Breeze recipes looked very different from the modern version. After cranberry drinks took a hit during the 1959 cranberry scare, the Sea Breeze eventually returned in the 1970s as the simple vodka, cranberry, and grapefruit highball known today.
