About the Lemon Drop Martini cocktail
The Lemon Drop Martini is a vodka cocktail in name only: it has little in common with a classic Martini. It is typically made with vodka or citron vodka, lemon juice, and triple sec, sometimes with simple syrup and a sugar rim, for a bright, sweet-tart, candy-like sour.
Norman Jay Hobday invented the drink in the 1970s at Henry Africa’s in San Francisco, one of the first fern bars, known for plants and Tiffany-style lamps. Variations include limoncello, flavored vodkas, fruit additions, and even a shot version. Widespread popularity followed after Oprah and Rachael Ray made one on television.
