About the French Martini cocktail

The French Martini is a modern vodka cocktail made with vodka, raspberry liqueur, and pineapple juice. Despite the name, it has little in common with a traditional Martini; it is fruity, smooth, lightly tart, and foamy from the shaken pineapple juice, with raspberry sweetness giving the drink its signature rich berry flavor.

The cocktail was created in the late 1980s by Keith McNally in New York City and became popular during the rise of vodka and liqueur-driven drinks in the 1980s and 1990s. Its name was more about style than structure: “French” helped suggest sophistication through the use of Chambord-style raspberry liqueur, while “Martini” connected the drink to the era’s obsession with elegant cocktail glasses and modern bar culture.
