The Golden Glove

The Golden Glove does a lot with a very short ingredient list. Gold rum, lemon, and a barspoon of triple sec give it the familiar appeal of a rum sour, but with a warmer flavor and a little more polish. It is bright and refreshing at first, then gradually reveals a softer side underneath.

Gold rum gives the drink a mellow foundation. Its subtle notes of vanilla and oak sit comfortably behind the lemon, adding more depth than a white rum would provide. The citrus still lands with plenty of energy, but the rum gives it somewhere warm to settle.

The triple sec is used with a light touch, which makes its contribution easy to overlook. It does not turn the Golden Glove into an orange cocktail; instead, it adds a small flash of citrus sweetness that rounds out the lemon and brings out the fruitier side of the rum. Simple syrup takes care of the balance, keeping it light and fresh.

The Golden Glove earns its name through finesse rather than force. It opens with a quick citrus jab, follows with the warmth of rum, and leaves behind a gentle orange note. Simple, lively, and neatly put together, it is a cocktail that knows exactly how much punch it needs.
